NHL All Star Game: It's a Celebration!

It was a blur of a weekend in Raleigh that came to an end at once too soon and at the same time just in time.  Perhaps it was the five hour drive from Charleston to Raleigh that made it drag on and wore me down but just as at the Winter Classic it was done too soon, even through exhausted eyes.

NFL Playoffs- Conference Championship Predictions

Everything went according to form in the Divisional Round (3-1, 5-3 overall) until the Jets decided to spoil the favorites party with a convincing win over the seemingly unbeatable New England Patriots.  Elsewhere the Green Bay Packers breezed to a win over the #1 seed Atlanta Falcons, the Bears reminded everyone that the Seattle Seahawks were under .500 while the Steelers struggled early on only to surge back past the Baltimore Ravens.  It's down to the final four, the Conference Championships.

NFL Playoffs- Divisional Round Predictions

It was a solid Wild Card weekend with close games and a massive upset (and myself going 2-2), but now it's time for the big boys to play.  The #1 and #2 seeded playoff teams in the AFC and NFC finally get to take the field to prove their meddle while the Wild Card winners (including two #6's) get to play on for their playoff lives.  It's on to the Divisional Round!

The Sidney Crostache

This is a piece I wrote for our friends over at the American Mustache Institute on their asking about the power and prestige over Sidney Crosby and his one time fabulous mustache. The article can also be found here.

NFL Playoffs- Wild Card Predictions

It's that time of year again, the NFL Playoffs are alive and kicking with extremely interesting story lines.  Not playing, the Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Chicago Bears.  Playing?  New Orleans Saints, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets, Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles.  Without further ado, a look at each game:

The Winter Classic Afterglow

As I said in my previous entry, I truly believe this was the time that the Winter Classic became  just another event and became a true spectacle.  Between the hype leading up to the game, which only increased by the game being pushed back, and the HBO series (concluding tonight at 10pm), the game received more attention than ever before.

Combined with the fact that it had the two biggest stars which, though under achieved in the game, still made their presence known added to the hype of the game.  The spectacle of the players playing in an obvious rain storm added to the "Did you see that?!" appeal of the game that could attract viewers next year.

What I feel bad for are the viewers, though.  And this is not a complaint about NBC's broadcast (though having watched it later, was rough to watch at times).  NBC did a fine job.  They tried new things in their over head cam that were fine in theory but just didn't work.  Bravo on them for trying something new.  Why I feel bad for the viewers is because of what the viewers missed out on.  What the viewers miss, what the TV doesn't quit capture, was the truly amazing and emotional feeling in and around the stadium.

The Day the NHL Grew Up

There was always hype.  From the first Winter Classic in 2008, the build up was intense.  The teams were up-and-coming, highlighted by the face of the NHL in Sidney Crosby.  Aside from that, not many teams were too interested.  They were leery.  Then the game happened and it's ending was pure perfection.
