NBA Finals Predictions

It was a rocky go of it for the first two rounds, managing to go .500 (6-6) but a stride has been hit in the conference finals after going 2-0, taking the overall record in the NBA playoffs to 8-6.  No matter what there can be pride in finishing over .500 but let's go for three games over, what do you say?  Without further time wasted it's the predictions for the 2011 NBA Finals.

CaP Archives: No Tom Brady A-OK

Before starting Case and Point I had been writing for years.  Some of that writing took place on Bleacher Report.  The summer time is traditionally pretty dull so I figured what better time to look back at some of my favorite pieces from Bleacher Report?  Today, why No Tom Brady was A-OK

CaP Archives: Super Bowl XLIII More Than Magical

If Lance Armstrong Cheated, Who Cares?

The whispers have been around for years and this past week one of his teammates has come out and said it, Lance Armstrong used PEDs.  According to his United State Postal Service teammate Tyler Hamilton, Armstrong was one of many who used HGH and testosterone.  But really, who cares?

The Atlanta Thrashers Bum Rap

While nothing is official yet, it looks all but for certain that the Atlanta Thrashers will cease to be shortly.  It's rather unfair.  While I previously chided Atlanta fans for not coming through for the Thrashers, or almost any team, it's really not hard to blame them.  What reason did they have to come?  The poor team never had a chance.

Time for Damage Control in NFL

The NFL's lockout is in it's 69th day and by all accounts things are progressing.  Very, very slowly.  Both sides believe there will eventually be a resolution but right now both sides are also standing pat.  The possibility remains that there will be parts of the season missed.  But does it matter?

Draft No Compensation for Cleveland

As the teen stood there, glasses on and bowtie adorning his neck, he waited to see if he was the good luck charm that the franchise had been hoping for after a lost year.  Already awarded the fourth overall pick the son of Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, Nick, was their hope for the future of the franchise.

Wanna Get Away?

So this video of a Houston Astros fan evading security when he ran on to the field is a few days old but I feel it needs mention on this blog.  Since it's kind of awesome.

NBA Playoffs Conference Finals Predictions

A .500 first round (4-4) was met by an equally meh performance in the second round (2-2).  With an overall record of 6-6 it shows I clearly need to brush up on my NBA, but once again I go on undaunted.  As with the NHL the East and West are combined into one post.  It's the Eastern and Western Conference Finals Predictions.  Based on recent history, count on one of the predictions to be right.

OJ Mayo and the Busted Trade

The Memphis Grizzlies are counting their blessings right now, and not just because they're one win away from reaching the Western Conference Finals for the first time in their history.  Instead, it's because of a move that wasn't made at the trade deadline.  It's a non-trade that is making all the difference in the Grizzlies deep run.

NHL Playoffs Conference Finals Predictions

After a great first round (7-1) I wasn't so lucky in the second round.  While I nailed the West I bombed the East and went 2-2, bringing me to 9-3 over all.  In the past the East and West have shared separate days, not any more.  Now it's the Conference Finals for the East and the West.

Diesel Moves into Neutral

Strange as it may seem, by all indications the loss of the Boston Celtics to the Miami Heat in this years playoffs mean the likely end to one the greats to ever play the game. We may likely never see Shaquille O'Neal on the hard court again.

The Playoffs Gutsiest Performances

Over the weekend we saw the Boston Celtics Rajon Rondo suffer a gruesome dislocated elbow only to come back and finish the game, including adding several buckets.  While the next game for Rondo, back with a large pad on his elbow, didn't go so well as the Heat went up 3-1 in the series.  Had the Celtics won the series it would have been one of the gutsiest performances in playoff history.  Now it may well be a side note compared to these four.

The Importance of .500

For many baseball teams reaching .500 in May is not a big deal.  For some it's par for the course.  For others it's a bit of a disappointment.  For one team, the Pittsburgh Pirates, reaching .500 is a momentous occasion.

The Beauty and Burden of the (Playoff) Beard

Every April through June the NHL Playoffs happen.  Sixteen teams start off with one lifting the Stanley Cup as a reward for their hard work.  Each teams, however, takes on an additional burden.  It's one that lies beyond the crest on the jersey, one that belongs to the city they live and work in.  It's one that lies within the team as a symbol of unity and pride.

It's the playoff beard.

Why Washington Weeps

For the third season in a row a favored Washington Capitals team is knocked out of the NHL Playoffs much sooner than they could have been.  Different teams each time did the trick: The trapping Canadiens, the streaking Lightning, and the eventual champion Penguins.  Each time, though, there have been several constants.  Each one has equal blame for their failure.

Athletes and Social Media

More and more athletes are trying to brand themselves.  The best example of these remains Chad Ochocinco of the Cincinnati Bengals.  Releasing video games, having TV shows, being in commercials, and having a strong presence on the internet are vital to his lasting beyond his time on the football field.  Most athletes are trying to emulate Ocho, but to what success?

NBA Playoffs Semi Finals Predictions- West Edition

After doing extremely well with the NHL picks, the NBA picks didn't fare so well.  Going 4/8 is great in a batting average but not so much in predicting things.  There's no quitting at Case and Point, though, and as such it's time to predict the Conference Semi Finals, or second round, of the NBA Playoffs.  Yesterday the East, and now for the West.

NBA Playoffs Semi Finals Predictions- East Edition

After doing extremely well with the NHL picks, the NBA picks didn't fare so well.  Going 4/8 is great in a batting average but not so much in predicting things.  There's no quitting at Case and Point, though, and as such it's time to predict the Conference Semi Finals, or second round, of the NBA Playoffs.  Tomorrow the West, for today it's the East.

NHL Playoffs Semi Finals Predictions- West Edition

After managing an impressive (if I do say so myself) seven of eight correct predictions in the quarters (thanks by the way, Buffalo) the first round is done and we're on to the second round of the 2011 NHL Playoffs.  As is tradition (starting now) it's time for predictions.  Yesterday, the East.  Today, the West.
