In the middle of discussing her defeat of Lucie Safarova 6-0, 6-1, her trainer had entered the room. And her dog began to attempt to get out.
"Would someone get that man out of here?" she laughed, near uncontrollably, as a member of her entourage packed the dog back into it's bag. "I'll see you in five minutes." he smiled as he backed out of the room. Soon the laughing calmed down.
"It was frustrating." she said, talking about her recovery from knee and ankle injuries which had slowed down the legendary career she had earned. "But it really helped me to appreciate the moment and live for the now."

The greater hope for the future was the hopes that her sister Venus would join her in London for the 2012 Olympics. But that wasn't what mattered to Serena Williams.

So there she sat. In that moment. Laughing. Having trouble catching her breath. Ignoring the new trophy that sat at her side. Giving pause to the people gathered in front of her. Not worrying about what lay ahead of her.
Serena Williams has a dog.
And in that moment that's all that mattered.
