Diagnosing the Penguins
Sidney Crosby has mumps. Poor Beau Bennett has the mumps. Fleury, Bortuzzo, and Maatta are being tested for the mumps. It's going around the NHL like a plague. Shockingly, no NHLer has gotten the plague. Yet. The Penguins, though, have come down with some odd maladies that are being covered up by the team doctor.

It's Okay to Like Rob Scuderi Again
When "The Piece" was re-signed two years ago people rejoiced. A cared of figure in the Penguins Cup run of '09 was returning! Unfortunately, after an injury derailed his season, he became a lightning rod of criticism and the face of what was wrong with the Shero/Bylsma era. It's time for that to change.

Beau Bennett's Bad Breaks
Poor Beau Bennett. The Penguins ultimate x-factor never gets a chance to show off his ability. Seemingly always injured, the flashes of brilliance never go beyond that. He's been labeled as injury prone but the truth lies in just plain bad luck.

Image is Everything
Tonight, as Pittsburgh take on the Flyers, the Penguins will finally wear their gorgeous new third jerseys. The jerseys invoke a time of great success for the team, a time when everything was new, was fun, and was fresh. It's yet another move in the rebranding of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Bring Back the Fun
The pieces are in place, aside from a tinker here and there, and we finally have an idea of what our 2014-15 Pittsburgh Penguins will look like. They'll be deeper, younger, and lacking some very familiar faces. The main goal, as always, for the new group may remain win the Cup but there's a secondary goal for this squad of Penguins:
Bring back the fun.
Bring back the fun.

Who Is Bill Peters?
As word leaks out that a decision in a new coach will come soon, sources (like Josh Rimer) say the man in the crosshairs is Detroit Red Wings assistant coach Bill Peters. That's great, but who is he?

No Bylsma, No Cure All
The time has come. Even the most ardent Dan Bylsma defender can see it. No matter his coaching ability it's time for a change behind the bench. Changing the coach, however, will not fix everything.

Learn From It
Monday night the Pittsburgh Penguins pulled off what seemed to be one of the most improbable playoff wins in franchise history. Dead in the water for the first 39 minutes of game action, an unlikely hero emerged and the Penguins fought back to win 4-3 in a stunning display of offensive burst.
Is that good?

No One Has Ever Liked Pierre McGuire
No matter the side you fall on when it comes to Cygate, if you will, there's one universal truth: No one likes Pierre McGuire. This is a tradition that goes back decades according to this great, old article from The Hartford Currant.

Trust Kris Letang
It was announced earlier today that Kris Letang would be returning to game action tonight for the first time since going on the DL after suffering a stroke earlier in the year. Many were happy about this. A few were worried.

Outshot, outchanced, but not outscored. These have been the ways of the world for the Penguins for the majority of their last few bouts against opponents. Are these the new Penguins?

Part Four: The Fan
It was my first time in Chicago. My first time in Soldier Field. I wasn't here to watch the Chicago Bears take on the Green Bay Packers. Instead I was here to watch two of the best teams in the NHL face off in the middle of the hallowed walls of the Windy City's finest football stadium.

This is the second in a four part series on the different views of outdoor hockey. Click here for Part 1.
Part 2: The Patricipant
I did it backwards. I was born in Pittsburgh, PA. I grew up outside of Harrisburg, PA. I was 18 when I started playing ice hockey. In Charleston, SC. I never had the chance to play pond hockey growing up in the game. I never knew if I'd had the chance but I longed for the opportunity.
Finally the chance came.

Outside Hockey Part One: The Outsider
This is part one of a four part series in the different views of outdoor hockey games.
Part One: The Outsider
I could have been there. Instead I had to pass. The day before New Years Eve I received a text from my good friend The Steve, "We have a free ticket. Drive up to Pittsburgh and it's yours. We'll take you to Buffalo." Living in Charleston, SC this wasn't going to happen as my bank account was much closer to $0.00 than the amount needed to drive up to Pittsburgh. I'd have to sit and watch at home.

Dont Blink, Don't Even Blink
The lesson I learned last night is just that. Don't blink. Not for one second.
I foolishly gave up last night. I packed it in. I turned off the game and went to sleep.
That was a mistake.
