Transformation Tuesday: Phil Kessel

It's the summer and that means it's time for some fun.  Throughout the summer we'll be running Transformation Tuesday.  We take a look at current Pittsburgh Penguins now and back at the time of their draft.  With it being America's birthday it only makes sense to look at everyone's favorite American Penguin: Phil Kessel

Free Agency: Penguins Ink Schultz for Three Years

The biggest move the Penguins wanted to move in this free agency season was lock down Justin Schultz.  The team announced recently that they've accomplished this task with a three year, $5.5 million per year deal.

Free Agency: Kunitz Bolts to Lightning

With a glut of young wingers and a desire to keep playing top line minutes, it seemed like Chris Kunitz's departure from the Penguins was a sure thing.  The Lightning made that official singing the Honeybadger on the first day of free agency.

Free Agency: Penguins Pro-Niemi, Sign Antti

As we all watched Marc-Andre Fleury's emotional exit from town we wondered who would be back up to Matt Murray.  It seems we have our answer as word is out the Penguins are signing Antti Niemi.

Free Agency: Trevor Daley Detroit Bound

The Penguins looked to lose key parts of their back-to-back championships and Trevor Daley was likely one of those expected to depart.  Now we have confirmation of his moving on.

Free Agency: Pens Add D Depth with Matt Hunwick

The Penguins were looking to add some blue line depth in free agency and have started that process, signing former Toronto Maple Leaf Matt Hunwick.

Free Agency: Hainsey Heads to the Maple Leafs

Ron Hainsey's time as a Pittsburgh Penguin was short but will always be remembered, for better or worse, as he moves on to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Free Agency: Bonino Bolts to Nashville

We all knew Nick Bonino was on his way out of town having priced himself out with back-to-back Stanley Cups but Darren Dreger reports his new deal comes from an unexpected place.

A Legacy Re-Written

When Marc-Andre Fleury was handed the Stanley Cup on June 11th, 2016 there was a sadness in his eyes.  He quickly passed it off as his expression read, "This isn't mine, I don't deserve this."  On June 11th, 2017 his expression was different.  This Cup?  This was his.

It Ends Tonight

It's been 18 years.  We all know that by now.  After tonight, when the final buzzer sounds, the clock resets to 0.  The series ends tonight and the Cup returns to Pittsburgh for the second year.

Time to be Better than Lucky

Outshot, outworked, outplayed and it didn't seem to matter for the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Somehow they managed to come out on top all the way to the Stanley Cup Final.  It may be time for a change of approach.

The (Black and) Golden Age

It was late.  Exhaustion and tension, at home and in PPG Paints Arena, were high as eyes were peeled on the action.  And then it erupted.  Kunitz scored.  An unheralded cornerstone instantly rewrote his history.  The Penguins were back to the Cup Final.

It's His Net Now

Never Play Tom Sestito Again

Sad.  Pathetic.  Disappointing.  Those are three words that sum up the first period of last night's 7-4 win over the Winnipeg Jets.  That the Jets even put up four goals is enough to shake the Penguins.  They did it to themselves by playing Tom Sestito.

Nick Bonino and Frank Corrado, a One-Sided Bromance

Yesterday at the trade deadline the Penguins swooped in with a pair of moves, one that netted 23 year old puck moving defenseman Frank Corrado from Toronto.  Turns out he's already been a fan of one of the Penguins.

Penguins Score a Pair of Defenders at the Buzzer

3pm had come and it looked like the Penguins had stood pat, a move that left some comfortable and others worried.  Then the rumors came out and the trades trickled in.  Jim Rutherford had pulled out a pair just as time expired.

F Eric Fehr, D Steve Oleksy, 2017 4th round pick to Toronto for D Frank Corrado

Looking to add some depth to a depleted defensive unit, Rutherford sent the already waivers cleared Fehr to Toronto, along with defensive defenseman Oleksy, to Toronto in exchange for 23 year old offensive defenseman Frank Corrado.  Seen as a reclamation project of sorts who can fill out the blue line in a puck moving manner, Corrado has seen 69 games of NHL action scoring 3 goals and assisting on 5 others.

2018 4th round pick to Tampa for Mark Streit

Penguins Acquire, Lose Defencemen

With injuries piling up everyone was waiting for Jim Rutherford to make a move, and he's now done so.

Marc-Andre's Quiet Farewell

It garnered some attention yesterday as it was presented but overall passed without much fanfare.  It was, in essence, the final act of adoration from Marc-Andre Fleury towards the Penguins.

Conor Sheary Out 4-6 Weeks

After a great stretch, the best of his career which saw him named Player of the Week on January 23rd, the Penguins will be without Conor Sheary for a while.

Stadium Series Screw Up

"Tickets are still available!" the ads, tweets, and texts say.  We're under a month away from the Penguins and Flyers playing each other outside at Heinz Field and yet the reaction is... tepid at best.

Reasons the Penguins Should have Cheered

Capitals blogger Russian Machine Never Breaks seemed to take exception to the Penguins not cheering as Alex Ovechkin hit 1000 points with an early goal in last night's 5-2 loss to the Capitals.  They may have a point.  Let's look at the reasons the Penguins should have cheered him on.

It's Time to Root for the Capitals

This is painful to say and even more painful to type but as the Capitals and Blue Jackets meet tonight it's in the Penguins fan's best interest to pull for the Capitals.
